To monitor treatment in individuals with diabetes by evaluating their long-term glycemic control.

Specimen:
Whole blood (1 mL) collected in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube.

Normal Findings:
(Method: Chromatography)

A1c4.0–5.5%
 Prediabetes5.7–6.4%
 ADA recommended treatment goal6.5% or less
Values vary widely by method. American Diabetes Association (ADA).
