(an″ĕ-rō-kok′ŭs ) [ ¹an- + aero- + coccus ] A genus of anaerobic gram-positive cocci, formerly classified as members of the genus Peptostreptococcus. They are butyrate-producing saccharolytic bacteria, sometimes pathogenic to humans.
