About the Presenters

MODERATOR:

Elizabeth Robison, EdD, MSN, RN, CNE, CHSE-A

Dr. Liz Robison is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator-Advanced, with the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, as well as a Certified Nurse Educator with the National League for Nursing. She’s currently part of the Board of Directors for the International Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) as the Secretary/Treasurer and is a faculty facilitator for the INACSL Simulation Education Program (ISEP). Liz has been an active participant as a nurse educator reviewer for the collaborative project between Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (OADN) and Unbound Medicine, OADN Virtual Simulation Reviews. She has been using active learning concepts throughout her academic career and is an advocate for learner-centered approaches to teaching. She is a military veteran, having served in the US Air Force Nurse Corps for 22 years and recently retired from a state college after almost 16 years in their program’s prelicensure nursing education degree track.

Jacinda Heintzelman, DNP, MSN, RN

Dr. Jacinda Heintzelman is an Associate Professor and Undergraduate Nursing Tutoring Co-coordinator at Colorado State University Pueblo’s School of Nursing. She has 11 years of experience teaching in BSN programs, and several of those years include teaching in the MSN and DNP programs. Jacinda has published on substance use during pregnancy, the impact of cannabis legalization on pregnant women, and self-efficacy of nursing faculty with improved orientation. She has been awarded several times for her accomplishments including: Member of the Academic Management Institute 2022-2023 cohort for CO/WY Women Leaders in Higher Education; Nurse Faculty Loan Repayment Program (NFLRP) Award; 2021 nominated for the Students’ Choice Award for Faculty or Staff Member of the Year Award; 2020 CEEPS Teaching & Learning Award; and the 2018 Nightingale Luminary Award for Innovation.

PANELIST:

Patricia Pence, EdD, MSN, RN, CNE

Dr. Patricia Pence is an Assistant Professor at Mennonite College of Nursing at Illinois State University. She has 18 years of experience teaching ADN and PN students, and currently 5 years of teaching BSN students. She is a Certified Nurse Educator with the National League for Nursing. Her research and teaching practice has resulted in 17 publications related to nursing education. Patricia is passionate about incorporating active learning strategies in the classroom. She recently adapted her case studies to include Next Generation NCLEX style of test items and is an author for Unbound Medicine’s Scenario Based Learning. She is the 2023 recipient of the Midwest Nursing Research Society, Nursing Education Research & Implementation Interest Mid-Career Investigator Award.
