Dance sign

(dons)

[J.B.H. Dance, Fr. pathologist, 1797-1832]
A physical finding said to be indicative of the presence of intussusception of the ileum into the cecum, consisting of the absence of palpable viscera when examining the right lower quadrant of the abdomen. It is caused by movement of the cecum away from the right iliac fossa, where retraction of the organ may be detectable.
