Amblyomma
(am″blē-om′ă)
[ambly- + Gr. omma, eye]
A genus of ticks that includes the Lone Star tick (A. americanum) and the Gulf Coast tick (A. maculatum). Some species cause tick bite paralysis; others are vectors of human ehrlichiosis, rickettsial diseases, or tularemia.
