[pubo- + -algia]
Pain arising in the groin or pubic symphysis. Diagnosis is made after ruling out the presence of an inguinal hernia.

ETIOLOGY
Symptoms are often secondary to strain of the muscles that attach in the area (such as the rectus abdominis, iliopsoas, adductor longus, or rectus femoris), inflammation in the urogenital system (such as urethritis, epididymitis), inflammation of the hip (such as bursitis, arthritis), or weaknesses in the abdominal wall.
