Malassezia

[Louis Charles Malassez, Fr. physiologist, 1842-1909]
A genus of fungi that is a common cause of superficial skin infections. The organisms are lipophilic. In hospitals, malassezia infections tend to occur in patients receiving lipid infusions. Malassezia infections of the bloodstream result in sepsis.
