PATIENT CARE
The test determines whether a person’s perceived muscle weakness is caused by a disease within the muscle or by a problem in a nerve supplying the muscle. It aids in differentiating between primary muscle disorders, e.g. muscular dystrophies, and secondary muscle disorders, helps assess diseases characterized by central neuronal degeneration, e.g., amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS, and aids in diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders, e.g., myasthenia gravis, and radiculopathies.
