pl. stigmatastigmas [Gr., mark]

1. A mark or spot on the skin; lesions or sores of the hands and feet that resemble crucifixion wounds.
2. The spot on the ovarian surface where rupture of a graafian follicle occurs.
3. A social condition marked by attitudinal devaluing or demeaning of persons who, because of disfigurement or disability, are not viewed as being capable of fulfilling valued social roles.
