[Albert Neisser, Ger. physician, 1855-1916]
A genus of gram-negative diplococci of the family Neisseriaceae. The most significant human pathogens are Neisseria meningitidis (the meningococcus) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (the gonococcus).
