1. The process whereby a state of excitation affects adjacent portions of a tissue or cell, so that the disturbance is transmitted to remote points. Conduction occurs not only in the fibers of the nervous system but also in muscle fibers.
2. The transfer of electrons, ions, heat, or sound waves through a conductor or conducting medium.
