The birth of a dead fetus occurring after 22 weeks' gestation. In Western nations stillbirths occur in approx. 1 of 320 to 1 in 1300 pregnancies. Identified risk factors include excess maternal weight, maternal age over 35 years, and smoking during pregnancy.
