pl. milia [L. millet seed]
White pinhead-size, keratin-filled cyst. Treatment consists of the use of mechanical keratolytics (pumice stone, soap), salicylic acid and sulfur ointment, or incision and expression of contents. In the newborn, milia occur on the face and, less frequently, on the trunk, and usually disappear without treatment within several weeks.
