[fluor- + -ide]
A compound of fluorine, usually with a radical; a salt of hydrofluoric acid. Considerable evidence shows that some fluoride compounds prevent dental caries (tooth decay).
Topical fluoride applications are toxic if swallowed. Seek medical care immediately.
