Acremonium
(ak″rĕ-mō′nē-ŭm)
A genus of fungi imperfecti that cause relatively rare opportunistic infections in immunocompromised hosts. It is one of the causes of Madura foot. It has also been reported as a rare cause of onychomycosis, keratitis, endophthalmitis, endocarditis, meningitis, peritonitis, and osteomyelitis. The former name of the genus, Cephalosporium, is still in common use.
