( jin-jī′vă) (jin′jĭ-vē″) ( jin-jī′vē″) pl. gingivae [L. gingiva, gum (in the mouth)] The tissue that surrounds the necks of the teeth and covers the alveolar processes of the maxilla and mandible; the gums. The gingiva can be divided into three regions: the gingival margin, free gingiva, and attached gingiva. Normal gingival tissue is pale coral pink, firm, and resilient.
