protoporphyrin
(prōt″ō-por′fĭ-rĭn )

[ proto- + porphyrin ]
A derivative of hemoglobin containing four pyrrole nuclei; C34H34N4O4. It occurs naturally and is formed from heme (ferriprotoporphyrin) by deletion of an atom of iron.
