Aeromonas
(a(-ĕ)r″ō-mō′năs)
A genus of gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, non-spore-forming, motile bacilli found in water and soil. It may cause wound infections or gastroenteritis, e.g., travelers' diarrhea.
Aeromonas hydrophilia
A species that is pathogenic for humans; it is sensitive to chloramphenicol, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, and some quinolones.
