neutropenia
(noo″trŏ-pēn′ē-ă)

[neutro- + -penia]
The presence of an abnormally small number of neutrophils in the blood, usually less than 1500 per μl. Severely low levels of neutrophils, e.g. less than 500 cells per μl, predispose patients to life-threatening infection.
