Exophiala
(ek″sō″fī-ā′lă)

A widespread genus of dematiaceous fungi that have two-celled blastoconidia. Exophiala species may cause phaeohyphomycosis; skin, heart, and brain infections in humans, esp. in those with immunosuppressive illnesses; and subcutaneous infections such as mycetoma and chromoblastomycosis.
