1. An increased response to a reflex when a stimulus is prolonged, even though the strength of the stimulus is unchanged, due to activation of increasingly greater numbers of motor neurons.
2. In audiology, an increase in the perceived intensity of a sound out of proportion to the actual increase in the sound level.
