A genus of small to medium-sized mosquitoes distributed worldwide. Some species are vectors of disease organisms.
culicine (kū′lĭ-sīn″), adj.
Culex pipiens
The common house mosquito, a vector of several illnesses, including Wuchereria bancrofti and West Nile virus.
Culex quinquefasciatus
A tropical and subtropical species, and the most important intermediate host of Wuchereria bancrofti.
