Balamuthia mandrillaris
(bal″ă-mooth′ē-ă mān″drĭl-ār′ĭs)
An opportunistic amoeba that lives in soil and water. It can cause a potentially fatal meningoencephalitis, esp. in those with immunosuppressive illnesses.
