Chloropidae
(klor-op′ĭ-dē″)
[Gr. chlōros, green, yellow, pale green + Gr. ōps, eye + -idae]
A family of small flies with the genera Hippelates (eye gnats, eye flies) and Siphunculina (tropical eye flies). They are attracted to eyes and open sores and spread conjunctivitis and yaws.
